LSI
Based SEO |
|
Latent Semantic Indexing functions in a
matrix, a method of linear algebra, and is a technical way of analyzing
relevant information from different documents and linking them up
together. Latent semantic indexing is a mathematical approach based on
statistical analysis that is applied to the document indexing process.
LSI goes beyond the usual keyword search results from a search engine.
In addition to considering the particular keyword in the indexing
process, LSI looks at the document as a whole. In what appears as an
intelligent analysis it selects other documents that not only contain
the same keywords but also those that contain semantically close or
similar textual matter. Thus the search engine has the most
relevant and well written informative pages on its first page.

|
These apparently intelligent connections are
artifacts of word use patterns that already exist in the set of
documents. In reality LSI has no insight into the meaning of the
documents or words it analyzes. It just scans the pattern of the usage
of certain words and statistically evaluates the correlation of their
use. It thus determines their correlation with a particular subject or
text. It is thus a powerful, generic tool that can index any relevant
group of documents in any language. LSI focuses on the various keywords
of the text collectively and not just on a single keyword.

|
LSI not only studies a document for keywords
and includes it in the database it also studies a number of relevant
documents and picks out words and phrases that are common or similar in
meaning between these documents. Further it scans other documents to
index them according to their semantic closeness with the relevant text
or subject. Unlike regular keyword searches, LSI can determines how
similar a document is to another or how relevant to the search topic it
is. LSI thus estimates this interdependence and evaluates the relevance
of a document on a scale of 0 to 1.
As a result of LSI the data retrieved by
the search engine includes clusters of documents and will even often
show up relevant documents that do not contain the keyword at all.
