Apple new AI Model for all Apple phones and laptop
OpenELM is a curation of four smaller language models from the Hugging Face library. It will help with text-based tasks like chatting, emailing, and more. A competitor to Grammarly is rising!
The best part about it is that it is open-source, which is a big thing coming from Apple! OpenELM has fewer parameters compared to Phi-3 (Microsoft) and Gemma (Google). This makes it lighter and easier to use on various devices.
Apple’s previous attempt at an AI model was in the form of MGIE, which helped fix the images based on prompts.
AI vs. Fentanyl overdose problem in the USA
AI’s data analysis and machine learning capabilities will be used by American authorities to track and curtail Fentanyl’s inflow from their borders and ports. Almost 85% of fentanyl comes from outside the USA.
Fentanyl overdose is a major problem, causing 70,000 (2023) drug overdose deaths in America. Imagine the number of lives and families affected by fentanyl, which must be in the millions.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is in cahoots with the Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP) to use AI to find trucks and transporters that might be carrying fentanyl.
They will use previous arrest data to understand the fentanyl transportation procedures (hiding spots, flat tyres, body damage, driver behaviours, and more) and then compare inbound traffic with it, in real-time. This way, the authorities will have a better prospect of catching the smugglers.
AI will also learn on the go! This could lead to big changes in the status quo of drug abuse, drug overdose, and the infamous Drug Wars!
Warner Bros Discovery betters ad-targeting with a new data platform
Warner Bros.’s is launching its new data platform, Olli, which would use first-party data from its users to improve ad-targeting. The audience from their digital and cable channels would be targeted.
The Interpublic Group of Companies (IPG), which is an advertising group housing many media brands, will start Olli’s testing in the third quarter, or Q3 2024. Since Olli will have access to first-party data, it will be able to create in-depth profiles. The results would be increased ad campaign performance and precision targeting.
Warner Bros. owns 10 cable channels (HBO, CNN, Discovery, and more) in 220 countries and many digital channels. Thus, the users of 220+ countries can be targeted accurately with Olli’s help!
